  • May 20, 2021 Update 3:30PM

Please see the below letter that was sent to families and staff earlier today.

Good Afternoon Cape Staff and Families,

With the recently released CDC guidance and Delaware Governor Carney's 29th modification to the State of Emergency and COVID-19 restrictions, it will be my recommendation to the Board of Education that the Cape Henlopen School District operates in a 5-day per week, full-day, in-person instructional model for the 2021-2022 school year. The District will develop plans for all students to fully return to the classroom, pending Board approval on May 27th. At this time there is no intention to return to a full-scale, modified remote, or hybrid model.

Thank you and have a great evening,

    Bob Fulton
    Superintendent

  • March 22, 2021 Update 6:00PM

As announced earlier this evening, we will be adding Wednesdays as an in-person instruction day for our middle school, high school, and Sussex Consortium students.

Beginning the week of April 12ththe two cohorts will alternate in-person learning on Wednesdays. We will begin with the Thursday-Friday Cohort attending on Wednesday, April 14th. The following Wednesday, April 21st, the Monday-Tuesday Cohort will attend in-person learning.

There will be three all remote dates for Cape Henlopen High School students ONLY, due to PSAT and AP testing. Those three all remote dates are 4/21, 5/5, and 5/12.

With the two cohorts alternating attendance each Wednesday, this ensures that all hybrid students will attend school in-person for a minimum of five days every two weeks.

In addition, the Sussex Consortium students will now attend in-person five days a week (Mon-Fri). Sussex Consortium students who attend Cape Henlopen High School will be remote on the three days that ALL high school students are listed as remote (4/21, 5/5, and 5/12). If you have additional questions, please reach out to your child's school principal.

  • January 14, 2021 Update 4:00PM

The following email communication was shared with families earlier today:

We wanted to take the opportunity to remind everyone that they are required to use the Health Assessment Self-Screening Tool every  morning before coming to school. The health of our staff and students, and our ability to keep schools open, relies on everyone doing their part.

The Health Assessment Self-Screening Tool PDF is attached to this email, and can also be found on our COVID-19 Resources Webpage by visiting, www.capehenlopenschools.com/health-assessment . Remember, if anyone in your household has COVID symptoms or has tested COVID positive, your child should not attend school. Please reach out to your Primary Care Physician (PCP) and follow-up with the school nurse.

If you have questions about possible COVID infection or exposure, please refer to the Process Map that is attached to this email and available at the link above. The Process Map is a step-by-step flow chart explaining the steps taken by both the individual and the District when dealing with exposure and/or positive cases of COVID-19.

If you have any questions about the health assessment or the process map please contact the school nurse.

    Thank You

We want to take a minute to thank you all for your continued support and patience as our District navigates this challenging time. We appreciate your willingness to participate in our "pulse" survey last week that provided us with valuable feedback needed in order to assess how to move forward.

We have been meeting with our District committee regularly to determine how we can best provide a high-quality education to all of our students while prioritizing the health and safety of both our students and our staff. On Thursday, August 6, 2020 we will be holding a Special Board of Education meeting to provide an update on the reopening plans. Open session will begin at 4:00PM and the link for the virtual meeting can be found on the Board Docs website, or by clicking here.

  • April 29, 2020 Update: 11:48am

Please see the below note from the Department of Labor regarding student work permits.

During the COVID-19 State of Emergency, we will utilize the following temporary process for work permits:

A minor and/or their parent can go online to the Department of Labor website (under Industrial Affairs), print the work permit out, complete the middle section (Minors information), have the employer complete the top section, and scan it back to Labor Law Enforcement Officer, Jay Dempsey at jay.dempsey@delaware.gov along with proof of age (i.e.- birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or a government-issued identification card). Once the information has been reviewed, a confirmation email will be sent to the employee regarding the status of the work permit. The minor should make a copy of the work permit and the confirmation email for the employer, and also keep a copy for their own personal records.

This process is only being used during the COVID-19 Emergency.

  • Update: March 3, 2020

Cape Henlopen School District Health Advisory Regarding the Coronavirus and Influenza

The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) is closely monitoring the coronavirus disease and has provided school districts with cautionary guidelines.

Please keep in mind that there are no confirmed cases in the Cape Henlopen School District or the state of Delaware. We do, however, want to be proactive to keep students and staff safe.

The best precautions to take are the ones always recommended for avoiding colds and flu.

We ask that everyone in Cape Henlopen consider the following advice:

    • Stay home if you are sick and avoid healthy people. Do not send children to school if they have above-normal temperatures.
    • Follow good hygiene protocols
      • cover nose and mouth with your sleeve while coughing or sneezing
      • wash hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
      • avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth
      • avoid others who are sick

Staff will also assist by regularly cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces in classrooms, offices, restrooms, and hallways.

We ask parents to advise your child's school nurse in advance of international travel. In addition to following the above-mentioned precautions, DPH highly recommends getting an influenza shot.

Anyone with concerns should contact their healthcare provider.

Visit https://dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dph/index.html for more information regarding Delaware's response and plans.
